The Week In
Consumption
Music
There’s a new Mitski album and I spent most of the week on it. I find myself coming in on the second half more often than not, but it’s pretty good. The cover is a cat and there are at least two songs about cats.
Books
I was in the library where they have a cart full of withdrawn books for sale, so I got Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow for 25c and since it was beside me when I finished Amusing Ourselves to Death, I just went straight on into it. It’s very modern fiction so far, if you get what I mean. References to culture, pop- and otherwise, clear moral lines presenting as grey area.
Movies
Two weeks without watching bloody movie now. Almost did last night until the power went out in half the city for the hours of 8pm to 10pm, aka the watching-a-movie hour.
TV
Finished The Bridge, of which I can safely say the writers had seen Seven once or twice. Finishing off season 3 of Deadwood before I forget what happened in season 1 and 2. And then, over a decade later, I can finally watch the wrap-up movie.
Production
Running
Decent amount, including 18km on Saturday with some hills. Bit of a small strain still in the top of my leg/hip/groin/stomach (it’s hard to define), which remains from, I dunno, December? So I’m going to the physio on Tuesday. The physio will tell me to stop running, and I won’t do it.
Writing
Once again, I am set up for tomorrow but I don’t see this sustaining a whole year.
Code
I looked at the receipt for the week’s grocery shopping and then spent 3 hours and all my daily Claude Code tokens making a Go API with some frontend that takes my grocery receipt, scans it, takes the text, saves the cost, weight and per-unit cost and plots it to a table. If I do this every week I can see in real time the increase in grocery prices. I have just this minute remembered I have literal years of Sainsbury’s receipts from London that I could just feed in and see what happens. Fun.
